City celebrates Christmas with gaiety

Santa brings joy to kids

Ujjain:Various programmes were organised to mark the festival of Christmas in the city on Wednesday. People thronged the Roman Catholic Church and Messiah Mandir to perform prayer celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. People greeted Merry Christmas to each other throughout the day.

Dozens of Santas were seen moving among the kids giving gifts and chocolates to them. Morning prayers were performed in the city churches as the sun dawned on Wednesday. Birth celebration of Jesus Christ was celebrated on Tuesday night as the clock stuck 12 am with holy rituals.

Bishop Sebastian Vedekkel carried the idol of Jesus Christ in his lap and came out of the church along with other devotees and moved around the church. They also lighted holy fire on this occasion.

Christian devotees gathered in the churches in large numbers and read the holy Bible. A fair was organised at Messiah Mandir located at Dewas Road. People visited the fair along with the kids and enjoyed the ride and relished sweets and desserts. Some children were dressed as Santa Claus and they were distributing gifts to little kids. On Wednesday evening, a rainbow of cultural performances was hosted by Christian community people in churches. St Mary’s Catholic Church and Messiah Mandir were decorated with fancy lights on the occasion of Christmas.

Devotees lighted candles to celebrate the festival of Christmas.Their joys knew no bounds as people were extremely happy on this day.
