BEST assures no strike by its employees till 2016

STAFF REPORTER Mumbai The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport ( BEST) Undertaking has decided to hike salaries of its employees after discussions with the Sharad Rao- led union in BEST, which had called a strike last year. As a res

ult, the BEST has assured that no strike by the workers at least till March 2016.

The undertaking will shell out about Rs 350 crore as arrears from 2006 and bear incremental expenses of about Rs 140 to Rs 150 crore every year now on.

The BEST revised its staffs for five years from March 2011 to 2016 after over six years. Since 2006, the salary of BEST staff was not revised, however the undertaking will have to pay the arrears for all these years.

The undertaking plans to recover the money from revised tariff rates in both power and transport wing.

” The hike in both the tariffs of power and bus services to be approved by MERC and in the BMCs general body meeting are expected to balance the costs,” added Gupta.
