OUR STAFF REPORTER BHOPAL The issue of short supply of gunny bags by the Centre to the state may appear simple, but there is something that more than meets the eye.
The political game played at national level has led to the shortag
e of gunny bags in states like Punjab and Haryana too.
Sources said the gunny bags, which were supposed to be supplied to Madhya Pradesh and other states, were sent to Uttar Pradesh at the behest of the Central Government so as to develop cordial relations with the Samajwadi Party.
According to reports, former chief minister Mayawati, prior to the assembly elections in UP, had declared that her government would do wheat procurement.
The SP- led government also declared that it would do wheat procurement, and as UP needed more gunny bags to fulfill commitment, the supply of bags to other states was affected.
Sources said supply of gunny bags got affected even in the Congress ruled states, to fulfill the requirements of UP. This condition has caused resentment in other states.
