Andheri bar raided, 13 girls arrested
MUMBAI: The Social Service Branch ( SS Branch) along with the Andheri police raided the Gypsy Hotel and Bar in Andheri East and arrested several persons, including 13 girls, for running a prosti
tution racket and a dance bar under the pretext of serving liquor.
The raid took place in the wee hours of Friday around 12.45 am at the bar located on the MV Road. The police, under relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act ( PITA), arrested owner Sainath Shetty ( 48), the manager, the cashier, the staff and two watchmen.
82- year- old Parsi woman robbed of valuables
MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, that too in broad daylight, an unidentified man and a woman robbed an 82- year- old Parsi woman and her daughter- in- law of their valuables from their residence in Wadalas Parsi Colony, early morning on Friday. No arrests have been made so far.
Matunga police said the victim Sushella Parekh ( 82) lives with her son Rasiklal Parekh ( 33) and his wife at Roshan Mansion, Plot no 5. At around 7.15 am, the duo knocked on the door of their flat.
When Parekhs wife opened the door, a woman pushed her and barged into the house. With the help of her male friend, she pulled out the bangles from her hands. They broke the cupboard and robbed five watches, gold ornaments and cash. The duo then fled the spot.
Bus accident victims leg amputated
MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, a 50- year- old womans leg, to save her life, had to be chopped off due to the injuries she suffered in an accident on Friday morning, wherein the rickshaw she was travelling in, was hit by a BEST bus in Kurla West.
Kurla police said, around 5.30 am, bus no. 313, moving from Kurla West to Santacruz East, hit the rickshaw near Kurla Bridge. The victim Latabai Kanas, who was travelling in the rickshaw, sustained severe injuries on her leg. A piece of steel from the rickshaw penetrated into her right leg. The doctors at Sion Hospital had to amputate the leg from below her thigh.
BEST president Ashok Patel has promised compensation to Kanass family and stated that a complaint has been registered against the driver at Kurla police station.
AAWI felicitates veteran lawyers
Mumbai: The Advocatesalt39 Association of Western India ( AAWI) felicitated 21 lawyers who have completed 50 or more years practicing law on Thursday at the Bombay High Court.
The Bombay High Court will complete its 150 years in August this year and the function was organized by the AAWI to celebrate this landmark. The event took place in the historic central room of the Court where some of the most famous trials of the century, such as the trial of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, have taken place.
The Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Mohit S Shah, who was also the chief guest of the ceremony, felicitated the 21 veteran lawyers.
Balasaheb Apte, one of the felicitated advocates, spoke on behalf of the senior lawyers, and expressed his gratitude toward the AAWI. ” It is not about how many years you spend in the court, it is about how you spend those years. A strong lawyersalt39 association can really bring accountability and transparency in the judiciary. My years of practicing law have been rewarding and educational due to the bar association,” Apte said. The Chief Justice, in his speech said that it is the lawyers on whose shoulders the reputation of the High Court rests.
