Ujjain : Farmers of the district have come in confronting position before the decision of the administration of opening the gates of barrage made on the River Kshipra for cleaning of the river, on Saturday.
PHE after getting the green signal of higher authorities had opened the gates of barrage made in Gaughat area on Friday night. After few hours of opening the gate around 30 farmers of adjacent villages Gangedi, Chaalmukh, Paalkhedi and Sikandari threatened the watchman Aasharam appointed at the barrage and forcefully closed the door. Watchman Aasharam reported the entire incident to the higher authorities at Water Works located at Gaughat on Saturday morning. Bone of the contention is that farmer’s do not want that barrage to get empty as farmers use this stored water for the irrigation purpose.
On the other hand administration wants to clean the river by the pressure of flowing water before January 14. Engineers also had to face the wrath of the farmers when they reached at the Triveni barrage for opening the gates and staged demonstration at the place. Engineers had to call police for their protection at the spot.
