3 shops burgled, goods worth thousands stolen

Ujjain : Theft incidents are on the rise in the city and have become a cause of concern for the residents. The city has recorded three burglaries in a same area during the previous night.

The burglars struck at Mohan Nagar area on Agar Road. Exposing the tall claims of police on secured city, burglars struck at as many as three shops in Mohan Nagar in the wee hours of Tuesday and decamped with cash and goods worth thousands. Shockingly, the shops are located just 900 meters away from the Chimanganj Mandi polic station.

Arihant Jain, owner of an electric shop in Mohan Nagar complex, said he learnt about the theft only when he reached at his shop. “They took away Rs 20,000 from the drawer, but did not touch anything else,” he said. His neighbour, Manjit Singh of Sardar Tire shop, lost tubes, tires and some cash. Showing the broken locks, he said the burglars had only taken tires and tubes from his shop.

The owner of Abhishek Hardware claimed that hardware and machinery were stolen from his shop. Exact value of the stolen goods and cash yet to be assessed, “It may exceed lakh and seems to be the handiwork of a gang…we have started the investigations,” a Chimanganj Mandi police official said.
