Few corporations have the kind of influence on every aspect of human life as Google does. The internet search giant’s latest hardware project is a wireless router. The Google OnHub Smart WiFi Router sees a definitive commitment from the worldwide leader in search, towards tangible products. Granted that this product is right up their alley, like the internet itself often seems, but the Google OnHub Smart WiFi Router in itself is a pretty nifty product to have and hold.

So what does this do?

You won’t expect a router to cook you breakfast in the morning, and on that count the Google OnHub Smart WiFi Router does not disappoint. What the OnHub Router does however do is that it used its 13 in-built antennae to find you the best possible internet connection, and keep you on it, all the time.

So 13 antennae in this cylindrical drum thingamajig, cycle between bands and seamlessly keep you connected to the internet. That’s all. How it works is the real bomb! It’s 13 antennae, 6 for the 2.4 GHz band and 6 for the 5 GHz band, are always on. One antenna on the other hand constantly scans the spectrum to monitor the environment for wireless congestion. This active scanning from the dedicated antenna, in conjunction with OnHub’s proprietary software switches wireless channels whenever necessary, keeping you always on.

The Google Promise

Like all Google devices, this one too comes with an expansive software and hardware spec sheet. 802.11ac support, Bluetooth (with Bluetooth Ready Smart) and support for Weave make this one of the most future proof gadgets out there. Like Android One, Google has promised to pony up plenty of firmware updates to keep the OnHub on top of its game.

On the hardware front, the device is powered by a Qualcomm/Atherosclerosis chipset combination. A 1.4 gig dual core processor, teamed with 1GB of RAM, its internal memory of 4GB is expandable to 32GB with a memory card. The Google OnHub Smart WiFi Router also has an inbuilt LED ring and a 3W speaker that can take care of your personal entertainment needs. The entire device can easily be controlled through the Google On App, available for download on the iOS and Android app stores.

OnHub and the Internet of Things

Considering the fact that most modern home electronics manufacturers are betting big on the Internet of Things, that is primarily home gadgets that can connect to the internet on demand to complete their set tasks, the OnHub Smart WiFi Router, symbolises Google’s acknowledgement of the concept and its willingness to play ball with it.

The Google OnHub Smart WiFi Router is now available on Google Store and Amazon for a cool Rs. 13,999/- in our opinion quite the steal, considering its huge potential.
