An air hostess has lodged acomplaint with the Bhandup police claiming that she was duped by cyber fraudsters of Rs 1 lakh, by inducing her to share her bank account details on a phishing link, in order claim her 'birthday gift' from an online shopping company, which the victim used for regular shopping.
According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Bhandup (W) often purchases beauty products through an online shopping app and gets different gift vouchers.
On July 2, she received an email claiming to be from an executive of the online app. It stated that since she had her birthday this month, the company would be sending her a gift.
Next day,she received a message from her husband, informing her that a gift had come to their home, but since she was not at home, the delivery person went back
On July 7, she contacted the courier office where she was told she would be charged Rs 5 late fee and sent her a link to her phone. The victim then shared her bank details on the link, after which Rs 1 lakh was transferred from her account.
