Mumbai: The State Transport Commissioner's office has announced that the number of applications for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for old vehicles across the state has surpassed the 1 lakh mark. A total of over 1.5 crore number plates will be replaced across Maharashtra, with more than 20 lakh expected to be replaced in Mumbai in the coming week.
Out of these, nearly 50,000 applications are from the Mumbai region, where there is a significant demand for special number plates for older vehicles. The system for HSRP is entirely online, and payments for the installation of these new plates must be made 100% online, with no cash payments accepted.
How to apply for Appointment

20 Lakh Vehicles Will Get New Number Plate | Official website
The final date to apply for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) is March 31, 2025. The entire process is conducted online through the official website:
https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in/ZoneWiseWebsiteRedirect.html
You can register and book an appointment for the number plate fitting on this official portal.
However, please note that this portal is only for booking HSRP installations for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Vehicles registered after 2019 are not yet eligible for registration through this portal.
Why only for vehicles before 2019
Since its launch in April 2019, the HSRP initiative has been a mandatory standard for all newly manufactured vehicles.
"It also has a 10-digit unique number that is embossed with laser making it tamper proof. With the SOP issued, all those vehicles registered before April 2019 too need to have HSRP before the March 2025 deadline", Hindustan Times quoted transport official as saying.
