For kids – not just toys
When everyone else is going to Goa for the parties and the sand, this small announcement tells us why there’s more to the place than you can imagine. A young firm call Inventrom Robotics has announced its Roboworld workshop.
It’s to be held at the Latin Quarter of Panjim, the Mala-Fontainhas area, and it happens from Dec 26-29, 2014.
Robo World Robotics Workshop is specially designed for kids from 5th to 10th standard. The workshop not only introduces the kids to the world of Robotics but also gives them hands – on experience in building robots!
Says their announcement: “Kids love robots. The same is very well proven by so many robotics toys in the market as well as hit movies like Wall–E. While kids have loved playing with robots and watching them on the silver screen we realised that it was also time for them to build them on their own and thus we came with the idea of the Robo World workshop.”
During the workshop the young engineers they will build three different types of robots namely ‘The Beam Bot’ (Which they will carry home with them), ‘The TechnoBot’, and the ‘Mobile Robotic Arm’, The workshop will include various activities like designing electronic circuit of the robots, building the mechanical body of the robots and programming the robots etc.
For programing they will work on Herbert simulation software to learn about algorithms and also learn to code robots on basic C Codes for controlling the motion of the robot and thus learn robot programming in detail. There will also be a competition on the last day of the workshop on Robot Control.

A pen, in 3D
This is a pen which doodles. In 3D! “Techies and artistes alike will love the 3Doodler,” says one write-up on it. Not for nothing; this is the first 3D printing pen.
You can use it to create designs or use scrawl over templates with the pen. It secretes a flexible plastic as you draw, and retains a sturdy shape as the plastic cools. To do this you can choose special filaments for shimmery, clear and neon creations — at $10 a pack.
3D drawing is such an unusual and new idea, that its promoters had a video to explain how it works.

Android tops
If you go by the androidos.in, then Android continues to dominate the gadget web searches in India.
The site reports: “According to Google, Motorola smartphones dominated the gadget searches in the year with Moto G topping the list ahead of Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5. In addition to Moto G, Moto E and Moto X were the other Motorola phones in the top ten gadget searches of the year in India.”
Global tastes vary though. In global searches, Android reigned, but Moto G was “far down on the list”. Instead Apple’s iPhone 6 topped the global consumer electronics search in 2014. Reflects the price of the product and affordability?

Phone, for selfies?
You might think this is the limit! Domestic smartphone manufacturer Micromax, reports Gadgetdiary.com, has announced its new “selfie-focused smartphone”.
The Micromax Canvas Selfie will be available around the second week of Jan 2015. The 4.7 inch HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top makes it easy for one-hand operation. It has a 13 megapixels primary camera on its rear with an LED flash, Sony sensor and a detailed 13MP front-facing camera. It is aided by a selfie camera app, which includes “camera beauty” tools. Among these are eye enhancement, face slimming, skin smoothening, teeth withering, remove oil, fade dark circles, make-up and what not!
Pens, for the style
Online shopping has its own negatives, one of the biggest perhaps is that it squashes retainers within the market. But on the positive side, within the range being sold, there is a lot you can find.
Flipkart (and other online vendors too) has an amazing diversity of pens, good old fountain pens which seem to be going out of fashion, and for that matter are simply not being sold.
Just for a lark, one searched for the high-end pens on sale there. Costliest fountain pens include the Delta Rediscovered Pompei fountain pen (blue), which costs a whopping Rs 71,400. But if you don’t have the dough on hand, then consider EMIs from Rs 3462! All in all, Flipkart has a total of 1316 fountain pens in its premium collection!
