Taiwanese electronics maker Asus on Wednesday launched the Asus 6z smartphone India. The flagship offering is officially known as the ZenFone 6 in other markets but is renamed to Asus 6z here due to a Delhi High court-directed restrain on the sale of Zen or ZenFone-branded products.

At the launch event, Asus Chairman Jonny Shih revealed that the Taiwanese company is now the number four largest online smartphone brand in the country. Shih said Asus has internalised the practice of "design thinking" and it helps the company identify the things that make a real difference in the consumers' lives, reported Gadgets360.

This year, the 6z will go up against the likes of the OnePlus 7 Pro and Oppo Reno 10X Zoom. The smartphone is also in the same league as the Google Pixel 3a and the Galaxy S10e, although the latter is significantly expensive than the Asus 6z. According to Live Mint, the Asus 6z starts at Rs 31,999 for the 6GB/64GB variant. It comes in two other trims priced at Rs 34,999 (6GB/128GB) and Rs 39,999 (8GB/256GB). The smartphones will be available for purchase on Flipkart starting 29 June.

The smartphone features a 6.4-inch display, which is notch free and is available in an FHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Asus 6z is lit by a 6.4-inch NanoEdge display with a resolution of 2340x1080 and 600 nits of peak brightness. The phone is sandwiched by Gorilla Glass on both ends with an aluminium chassis in the middle. It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery and ships with a 40W charger supporting Quick Charge 4.0. On the software front, it runs on Zen UI 6 based on Android Pie 9. The Asus 6z features a fingerprint sensor on the back. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 system-on-chip (SoC). Asus 6Z packs a number of Made for India customisations, including call recording support, dual account support, outdoor mode, mobile manager, FM radio, and app lock.

The most talked about feature in the phone is its camera. The Asus 6Z sports a Sony IMX 586 sensor that’s rated to 48 MP – just as it is on the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. The flip camera module can be used for selfies as well as a rear-facing camera. It has two sensors comprising a 48MP+13MP setup. The cameras also come with Laser AF assist and Dual LED flash. The camera module's rotation motor can be stopped every 2-degrees, which makes the free angle control feature work. Among other camera features, you will get HDR Enhanced, Super Night Mode, and more.
