A woman’s emotional post on X has gone viral after she claimed that ChatGPT helped save her mother’s life by identifying the true cause of a persistent, worsening cough that had lasted 1.5 years—something top doctors and major hospitals failed to resolve.

“ChatGPT saved my mom," she wrote adding, "My mom had a nonstop cough for 1.5 years. We saw top doctors, visited big hospitals in and out of the city, tried homeopathy, ayurveda, allopathy—nothing helped. It got worse: internal bleed ing started. Doctors said, ‘If this goes on for 6 more months, it could be fatal.’ I was terrified. Out of desperation, I described everything to ChatGPT.”

According to the post, ChatGPT generated multiple possible causes based on the described symptoms. One possibility it raised was a side effect from blood pressure medication. When the woman confirmed her mother was indeed on BP meds, ChatGPT followed up with a specific question about the ingredient. Upon confirming the ingredient matched, the woman consulted her doctor.

“We told a doctor. He confirmed it instantly and changed the meds. Now she’s finally healing,” she wrote.

She concluded the post with gratitude and also thanked OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for creating ChatGPT. “Not exaggerating but ChatGPT saved her life. 🙏 Thank you @sama for creating such a great thing. Always grateful for that ❤️," she wrote.

The post has since drawn widespread attention, with users reacting in shock and appreciation. Many praised the responsible follow-up with a medical professional, while others noted the growing usefulness of AI as a supplemental tool in health research.
