Apple is ramping up its artificial intelligence strategy with a bold entry into home robotics and smart devices, aiming to bring a lifelike 'tabletop robot' to consumers by 2027, according to industry sources cited by Bloomberg.

The centerpiece of Apple’s AI comeback is a device that resembles an iPad mounted on a movable arm, capable of swiveling and following users around a room. It’s designed to spring into conversations, suggest helpful information, and actively engage with users rather than remain static.

Powered by a newly envisioned version of Siri, possibly using an animated avatar inspired by the Mac Finder icon or Memoji-style graphics, this robot is intended to support dynamic, context-driven interactions, such as planning trips or offering real-time reminders. Internally dubbed project J595, the initiative is being spearheaded by Kevin Lynch, known for his previous work on Apple Watch software and automotive projects.

Ahead of the robot launch, Apple plans to release a smart speaker with a display as early as mid-2026. This device, codenamed J490, will offer multi-functional features including smart-home control, note-taking, music streaming, web browsing, and video calls.

Both the tabletop robot and the smart speaker are expected to run on a brand-new operating system named Charismatic, optimized for multi-user home environments. The OS will tailor content and layouts based on facial recognition, and will emphasize clock faces and widget-based interfaces.

In addition to these devices, Apple is developing a lineup of home-security cameras featuring facial recognition and automation capabilities, such as triggering lighting and music based on who is detected, reinforcing its vision for a fully integrated AI-powered smart home ecosystem.
