Colombo, August 24: Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal took a stunning catch to dismiss Sri Lanka opener Lahiru Udara on day 2 of IND vs SL second Test in Colombo on Monday. The Indian batter pulled off a brilliant low catch at the third slip off Prasidh Krishna's bowling and then celebrated wildly with his teammates. The wild celebration comes after imposed a fine after his on-field clash with Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando.
The video of the celebration is being widely shared on social media. Jaiswal was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and also handed one demerit point for breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct which deals with inappropriate physical contact. Jaiswal made contact with Fernando with his helmet after an aggressive send off by the bowler.
India is now in a strong position in the second Test against Sri Lanka. India declared their first innings after scoring 503/9. India managed to score a massive score after Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel scored centuries.
Sri Lanka then came to bat in the later part of the day. However, Indian bowlers managed to put pressure on their batters as the hosts lost two wickets in the last few minutes left for stumps.
Prasidh Krishna bowled a testing delivery outside off stump to Udara. The Sri Lankan opener got an outside edge while trying to defend and the ball went flying towards the slip cordon.
Jaiswal reacted quickly and dived to his left to complete a magnificent low catch. Udara was dismissed after scoring just one run and gave India an early breakthrough.
The Indian players erupted in celebration after the wicket, however, Jaiswal was seen animated after completing the catch. The incident occurred immediately after disciplinary action against him.
