In a thrilling contest at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh pulled off a spectacular MS Dhoni-like run out to push their match against UP Warriorz into the first-ever Super Over in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history.

In the final over when UP Warriorz’s needed 18 runs to secure victory during run chase. Sophie Ecclestone, showcased her batting prowess by smashing Renuka Singh for consecutive sixes and a four, bringing the equation down to just one run required off the final ball.

However, in a moment reminiscent of MS Dhoni’s famous last-ball run-out against Bangladesh in the 2016 T20 World Cup, Richa Ghosh’s lightning-fast reflexes dismissed Ecclestone at the non-striker’s end, keeping RCB’s hopes alive and forcing a Super Over.

Despite the momentum swinging RCB’s way, UP Warriorz quickly regained control in the Super Over. Kim Garth bowled brilliantly, restricting the explosive duo of Grace Harris and Chinelle Henry to just eight runs. RCB, surprisingly, did not send Ellyse Perry who had earlier played a stunning knock of 90* off 56 balls to bat. I

nstead, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh took the crease, but Ecclestone, once again, proved to be the difference-maker. The English all-rounder delivered a near-perfect over, conceding just four runs and sealing a thrilling victory for UP Warriorz.

Despite their loss, RCB retained the top position in the WPL 2025 points table with four points from four matches, thanks to their superior net run rate of +0.619.  UP Warriorz, with this crucial win, have climbed to third place, overtaking Delhi Capitals. Their net run rate of +0.167 keeps them below RCB and MI.
