Mumbai Indians faced a major setback ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 opener as fast-bowling all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar was ruled out due to injury. The team has replaced her with left-arm spinner Parunika Sisodia, the tournament organizers confirmed on February 13.

Parunika played a key role in India's victory at the recent U19 Women's T20 World Cup in Malaysia, taking 10 wickets. She was India's most economical bowler, with an impressive economy rate of 2.71, and was named Player of the Match in the semi-final against England for her 3/21 spell in four overs.

Despite going unsold in the WPL auction last December, Parunika's standout performances earned her a spot in the Mumbai Indians squad. Previously part of Gujarat Giants in 2023, she has been signed for ₹10 lakh.

On the other hand defending champions RCB are facing multiple injury setbacks ahead of their title defense. Leg-spinner Asha Shobana has been ruled out due to injury, and the team has brought in wicketkeeper Nuzhat Parween as her replacement.

Nuzhat, who plays for Railways and has represented India in five T20Is, will serve as a backup to Richa Ghosh and has been signed for ₹30 lakh.

RCB will also be without key players, including Sophie Molineux, their second-highest wicket-taker last season, and Kate Cross, who has withdrawn due to injury. New Zealand star Sophie Devine is unavailable as she has taken a break from cricket.

Australia’s Ellyse Perry has joined the squad but remains uncertain for the first few matches due to fitness concerns, while Shreyanka Patil is also doubtful due to injury.
