Carlos Alcaraz has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Canadian Open in Toronto, becoming the latest top-tier player to pull out of the ATP 1000 event. The 22-year-old Spaniard, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, cited muscle fatigue and the need for recovery following a demanding run on the tour, which culminated in his runner-up finish to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon earlier this month.

Taking to social media he wrote, "After many consecutive weeks of competition without rest, I will not be able to play in Toronto this year. I have small muscles issues and I need to recover physically and mentally for what comes next. To the tournament and to my fans in Canada I am very sorry, I will see you next year!"

Last year in Toronto, Alcaraz reached the quarter-finals before falling to American Tommy Paul. His decision to skip the event means the Canadian Open will be without four of the world’s top six players

Which players have withdraw from Canadian Open?

The tournament has already lost several marquee names. Sinner, Djokovic, and Jack Draper had previously confirmed their withdrawals due to various physical setbacks. Sinner, who defeated Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, is skipping the event to manage his workload.

Djokovic is nursing a groin strain sustained during his semi-final match at the All England Club, while Draper continues to struggle with an arm injury. Additional withdrawals include Sebastian Korda and Hubert Hurkacz, sidelined by leg and knee issues respectively

Carlos Alcaraz 2025 season so far

Alcaraz has been in exceptional form this season, with titles at the Italian Open, Roland Garros, and Queen’s Club. Although his 24-match win streak was halted by Sinner at Wimbledon, back-to-back Grand Slam final appearances have further cemented his reputation as one of the leading forces in men’s tennis.
