Mumbai: Wellingdon Catholic Gymkhana (WCG) defeated St. Sebastian 2-1 for their first win in a Super Division ‘Super Six’ play-off match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Monday evening.
WCG took an early lead when Gavin D’Souza scored in the very eight minute but St. Sebastian put up a spirited fight back and drew level in the 54th minute through Mukesh Singh. But Royston Veigas produced a crucial strike in the 72nd minute to help WCG snatch a win and collect the full three points.
Later in a contest between the top two teams, Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) and Dena Bank shared the spoils as they were engaged in a goalless draw which ensured that they maintained their unbeaten run in the play-offs. Results: Karnatak Sporting Association 0 drew with Dena Bank 0; Wellingon Catholic Gymkhana 2 (Gavin D’Souza 8th min, Royston Veigas 72nd) beat St. Sebastian 1 (Mukesh Singh 54th).
