Following India's triumphant win over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final, Virat Kohli shared a touching moment with Mohammed Shami’s mother. A video circulating on social media captures Kohli respectfully touching her feet before posing for photos with Shami’s family, highlighting the camaraderie and respect within the team.

Shami played a crucial role in India’s unbeaten campaign, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker for the team alongside spinner Varun Chakaravarthy. He picked up nine wickets in five matches, reinforcing his status as a key player.

The rise of Mohammad Shami

After a terrific ODI World Cup in India, Mohammad Shami had been sidelined for over a year due to an ankle injury that required surgery. His last major appearance before the Champions Trophy was in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, where he emerged as the tournament's leading wicket-taker despite India's loss to Australia.

However, after making his comeback earlier this year in the Test series against England, Shami was included in India’s Champions Trophy squad, and his performance proved instrumental in securing the title. India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament thanks to some individual and collective effort by Rohit Sharma led team.

Team India makes history after winning ICC Champions Trophy

With this victory, India has now won the Champions Trophy a record three times, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. The team first claimed the title in 2002 under Sourav Ganguly’s leadership, sharing the trophy with Sri Lanka after rain washed out the final. In 2013, MS Dhoni led India to victory over England in a rain-affected final, becoming the first captain to win all three ICC white-ball trophies.

Rohit Sharma also joined an elite group of captains who have won ICC trophies in both the ODI and T20I formats. The Indian skipper’s remarkable achievement places him alongside the legendary MS Dhoni, who captained India to ICC glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
