Australia's stand-in captain Steve Smith took a blinder on day three of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium to see the back of Dhananjaya de Silva. Smith, stationed at slip, took the catch with one hand to send Dhananjaya de Silva packing, ending a crucial stand to bring Australia back in the game.

The incident occurred as Smith called in left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann to bowl his 13th of the innings and the 28-year-old drew the Sri Lankan captain with a fuller delivery outside off. De Silva took the bait and Smith moved forward to take the catch, with the ball dying on him. With the on-field umpire not convinced, he sent it upstairs and replays indicated that it was a clean catch by the visiting skipper.
