Rohit Sharma missed the opening Test against Australia in Perth

Meanwhile, the classy opening batter did not feature in the opening Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth due to his paternity leave. Nevertheless, the visitors hardly felt his absence as Jasprit Bumrah did an outstanding job as captain, while KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal did a sensational job as top-order batters.

After being bowled out for 150 on day one in Perth, Bumrah roared with the ball, tearing through Australia's top-order to leave them at 67-7 at Stumps. With the bowlers helping India gain a 46-run lead, India batted big in their second dig, setting Australia an improbable 534 to win.

Although the home side put on a better show with the bat, led by Travis Head's 89 and Mitchell Marsh's 47, Australia still collapsed to a 295-run defeat. It was also their first Test loss at the venue.
