The veteran cricketer made his debut for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture against Odisha in 2014 and featured in three Ranji Trophy games as well. As per family sources, reported by The Times of India, Banerjee, who was still playing local cricket, took a nap after breakfast in the morning in his residence in Solapur. With the 39-year-old not responding to calls from his parents a few hours later, they called a doctor, who pronounced him dead.

Renowned Cardiovascular surgeon opens up on how heart attacks are occurring in sportspersons

KM Mandana, who works as a cardiovascular surgeon in Fortis hospital, has revealed that mild symptoms of cogenital disorders that remain unchecked can prove to be fatal. Mandana said, as quoted by the Times of India:

"Some have cogenital disorders that remain undiagnosed, including sportspersons. Since symptoms are often mild, they tend to ignore them. People tend to believe that a cardiac issue can develop only at an advanced age but that's not true. Arrhythmia or irregular heartbeats, for example, often remain undiagnosed and turn out to be fatal. I have come across several youngsters who are into sports and fitness training who suffered heart attacks, sometimes fatal."
