Star Australian batter Steve Smith seemingly threw Shubman Gill off his game moments before his dismissal on day one of the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Smith was caught on stump mic saying 'This is bullsh*t' when Gill was taking his time to mark his guard, but the youngster also fired back.
The incident occurred in the final over before lunch on day one as Gill stepped midway down the pitch to tap his bat. However, Smith wasn't likely impressed with the delay and called out the right-handed batter for the same. After Gill told Smith that he too takes his own sweet time before facing any ball but hardly gets called out.
Below is the video of the conversation:
However, Gill might have had a lapse of concentration from that exchange as he stepped out to off-spinner Nathan Lyon only to edge the ball to Smith at slip.
Shubman Gill had replaced Rohit Sharma for the fifth and final Test of the series
Meanwhile, the Punjab-born cricketer had replaced Rohit Sharma in the line-up for the fifth and final Test in Sydney as the regular captain had been rested for the fixture. Jasprit Bumrah had walked out for the toss and opted to bat first.
With tough batting conditions at the SCG, India couldn't apply themselves to the best of their abilities and were skittled for 185. Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland shared seven wickets between them, while Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon took two and one scalp, respectively.
