England Test captain Ben Stokes is set to take on a new role in The Hundred 2025 season. The 34-year-old all-rounder will join the Northern Superchargers as a mentor, supporting the team from the sidelines as he recovers from his injury.
Stokes will work closely with head coach and former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff having already opted out of playing in this year’s 100-ball competition back in January as part of his workload management strategy following hamstring surgery.

Stokes said earlier this year in comments to ESPNcricinfo. “I made the decision in January not to play, but I still wanted to be part of the team. I won’t be sitting there with a notebook and pen I’m just here to give my time, support the lads, and continue with my rehab.” The England skipper previously featured in five matches for the Superchargers between 2021 and 2024, scoring 14 runs and taking five wickets.

Stokes’ mentoring stint comes on the heels of a remarkable showing in the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where he helped England to a 2-1 lead against India. He claimed 17 wickets and hit his first Test century in two years during the Manchester Test, where he also delivered a match-defining six-wicket haul. However, the physical toll of his heroics forced him to miss the final Test, which India won by six runs to draw the series 2-2.
