Mumbai : Defending champions St. Mary’s, ICSE, Pune fashioned impressive back-to-back wins in basketball, in the 26th Maharashtra Anglo-Indian CISCE Inter-School boys’ football and girls’ basketball tournaments, at the Barnes School & Junior College, Devlali on Tuesday.
Three-time winners St. Mary’s lived up to their reputation while crushing Bombay Scottish, Powai 40-2 and later routed Cathedral & John Connon, Mumbai 70-6 in Group A.
Cathedral made amends with a 33-9 win over The Bishop’s (Undri), Pune, while Christ Church, Mumbai overcame Bombay Scottish, Powai 10-2 after the scores were level 4-4 at half-time. Mallaika Chauhan and Muskaan Chauhan scored four points each for Christ Church.
In the football competition for boys, The Bishop’s (Undri) goalkeeper Nikunj Sharma effected three brilliant saves but his heroics went in vain as Bombay Scottish, Mahim snatched a 3-0 win, after a scoreless first-half, in a Group A match. Sharma blocked two tries by the lanky Aryan Singh, including a header, on the goalline and a powerful left volley by Parth Damani in the first half before Scottish substitute Dikshant Verma saw his volley rattle the post.
Scottish finally breached Sharma’s defence when Damani netted a penalty for the first of his two goals and added the third with a left-footer after beating the off-side trap.
