Mumbai : Talented cueists Sparsh Pherwani and Ishpreet Chadha, the young heavyweights in the KG “Dirty Half Dozen” (Khar Gymkhana) side held centre stage with some excellent potting display which enabled their team cruise to a comfortable 3-1 win against IG ‘Warrior’ (Islam Gymkhana) in a round of 32 match of the Otters Club-Mumbai Snooker League – 2017, conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).
Sparsh (+35 handicap) set the balls rolling for Khar Gymkhana by neatly compiling a break of 38 to outshine Sahil Khan (+25) 103-35 in the first frame. Islam Gymkhana came back with Abdur Rehman and Adil Khan (+23) scoring over the KG duo of Harsh Pherwani and Nikhil Saigal by a 70-41 point in the second frame, which was a doubles affair.
In the third frame, Khar Gymkhana’s Ishpreet made light of his light +5 handicap and with some clean potting rattled in a break of 76 to tame Juzer Master (+50) 103-61 before Sparsh returned to the table for the fourth frame which he won convincingly. He ran up a break of 38 to dash the hopes of Abdur and coast to a 81-28 win to wrap up the match for the Khar side. Sparsh was later declared as the “Player of the Match” and received a Trophy from Yasin Merchant, a former two-time Asian Snooker champion.
KG “Pocket Rockets” the second team from Khar Gymkhana also tasted success and advanced to the pre-quarter-finals. They defeated PJHG ‘Golmaal’ (P.J. Hindu Gymkhana) 3-1. Kavish Jhaveri (PJHG ‘Golmaal’), won the Player of the Match award. In the third match of the evening, ECC “Elfies Hornets” overcame GCH “Cue Ball Artists” (Garware Club House) by an identical 3-1 margin.
