Shubman Gill has been discharged from the hospital as India continue to deal with the fallout of the Eden Gardens defeat. The Indian captain just batted three balls before a neck spasm ruled him out of India's 30-run loss on Sunday. The 26-year-old remains some way short of full fitness and remains a doubt for the Guwahati Test starting Saturday.
Gill was rushed to the hospital on Day 2 of the Eden Gardens. BCCI on Day 3 confirmed he would play no further part in the Test. As reported earlier, the Indian captain was in the ICU as a precautionary measure given the delicate nature of the injury.
As per ESPN Cricinfo, Gill will not take part in the training session at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. With the test match ending in a chastening defeat, the Men in Blue will have net session in Kolkata before travelling to Guwahati on Wednesday.
Gill is unlikely to travel with the team given air travel is not recommended to travelers with neck pain. Should the Indian captain be in consideration for the Guwahati Test, he is likely to make the journey from Kolkata to Guwahati by road.
Gill has missed out on a Test match against New Zealand last year due to a neck spasm as well. The 26-year-old's injury comes at a time with his workload in question. Shubman has played every game available since the start of the IPL 2025 across formats. He played in Australia T20Is, four days before the start of the IND vs SA series.
Should he miss out, India have Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal in the squad. However, that would make India's XI very left-hander heavy, with KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel being the only right-handed batters in the top order. India's lefties had a day to forget against Simon Harmer, who scalped 6 lefties of his 8 wickets
