The first major crash of the 2025 Formula 1 season occurred in Australia, as young British driver Oliver Bearman suffered a heavy impact during the first practice session. Driving for Haas, the 19-year-old lost control of his car in sector three, sliding into the gravel before crashing into the barriers. Fortunately, Bearman emerged unscathed, but his car sustained severe damage, forcing him out of the session.

With around 20 minutes left in FP1, Bearman’s mistake proved costly for Haas. The impact damaged the right side of his VF-25, including the front and rear wings, suspension, and side pod. His car also skidded across the entire width of the track, leading to a 10-minute red flag stoppage for repairs. At the time of the crash, Bearman was in 18th position.

Despite the setback, he quickly reassured his race engineer that he was okay and apologized over the radio. Haas now faces a race against time to repair the car before the second practice session. Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris topped the timesheets in FP1, making a strong start to the weekend in Melbourne.
