Mumbai :  Former Asian and National Champion Sandeep Deorukhkar of ONGC and Ratnagiri based Maitrayee Gogate won the Men and Women singles event of the Union Bank of India Sponsored 3rd Swami Vivekanand Memorial Maharashtra State Ranking Prize Money Carrom Tournament – 2014.

Jain Irrigation’s Top Seeded State Champion Pankaj Pawar tumbled at the final hurdle loosing to ONGC’s former Asian and State Champion Sandeep Deorukhkar in the Final.

Second seeded Sandeep Deorukhkar rose to the challenge with a confident execution of shots to record an upset victory against Top Seeded State Champion Pankaj Pawar in a thrilling three game encounter, in the first game Pankaj Pawar played agressive game mixed with defence which helped to claim the first game in eight boards with great difficulty 25-17. In the second game Sandeep Deorukhkar playing aggressive game by the end of fourth board took a strong 22-0 and in the next board Pankaj Pawar took 5 points and the score was 5-22 and in the next Sandeep’s break he with 6 points won the second game 25-5 to make 1-1 all.

In the deciding 3rd game Sandeep playing aggressively to get commanding lead of 24-13 till completion of 7th board, In the next break Sandeep took 5 points and won the game 25-13 to record a well deserved victory and pocketed Rs. 15,000/- cash prize. Runner-up Pankaj Pawar pocketed Rs. 7,500/- cash prize.

In the third place match Rahim Khan of Pune knocked out Vasant Vairal also of Pune 25-10, 25-8 in straight games to pocket Rs. 3,500/- cash prize.
