Team India skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could play Ranji Trophy matches following BCCI's huge decision following a review meeting. According to Dainik Jagran report, the board during the meeting decided that all players would have to participate in domestic cricket as per their availability.

A player will only be allowed to skip domestic matches if the physio’s report, along with the approval of head coach Gambhir and chief selector Agarkar, permits it. Rohit last played a Ranji Trophy match in 2015, while Kohli's last appearance came back in 2012.

India's next big Test assignment is a five-match series against England in June. Speculation is swirling that the 37-year-old Rohit will not be selected for that series. Virat Kohli's future is also under the scanner although it is believed that he is in a slightly better position as of now.

Rohit Sharma desires to continue captaincy

The report further states that Rohit has expressed his desire to continue captaincy for few more months. The skipper has also requested the board to look for a new captain during this period, whom he will fully support. The meeting was also attended by India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Jasprit Bumrah was proposed as successor to Rohit but concerns regarding the fitness of the 31-year-old have raised doubts. Bumrah-led India kicked off the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a win. The pacer took 32 wickets in five Tests against Australia but is currently dealing with a back injury.

No pick-and-choose policy from now

The PTI has reported that the players won't be able to pick and choose bilateral series from now on. They will have to provide a valid medical reason for skipping a series. Many senior Indian players have skipped bilateral series in the past.
