Australian middle-order batter Travis Head's post on Instagram went viral after his bizarre celebration drew attention from fans on day five of the fourth Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With his finger celebration prompting backlash from Indian fans, Head shared a post on Instagram, captioning, "What a week, Had it all… Put it on ice and go again."
After Head dismissed Rishabh Pant with a near-rank long-hop, the South Australian came up with a bizarre celebration, causing netizens to label it as 'obscene and vulgar'. The wicket of Pant also proved to be the turning point of the Test as India lost seven wickets in the session to allow Australia to go 2-1 up in the series.
Later, at the post-match presser, Aussie skipper Pat Cummins clarified the gesture, stating that Head's celebration denoted that he is wanting to put his finger on ice after bowling. Below is the 30-year-old's post on Instagram:
Travis Head remains the leading run-getter in the five-Test series despite twin failures in Melbourne
Meanwhile, Head's 410 runs in the series still remains the highest across both sides despite registering scores of 0 and 1 in Melbourne. However, it didn't stop the home side from going 2-1 up in the series as they forced a collapse in the final session in Melbourne.
The fifth and final Test in Sydney begins on January 3.
