Mumbai : Palak Dhami, from Glenmark Aquatic Foundation, was the star performer with two new meet records on the opening day when five record were re-written in the GAF-GMAAA age group swimming champioships, held at Tata Swimming Pool, at Chembur, here on Friday. Incidentally, girls outdid boys, claiming four of the five new marks.

Palak won the 50m back stroke as well as 100m butterfly events in girls III category. She bettered her own last year’s timing of the backstroke event, clocking 0:33.65 secs while she eclipsed the 2015 timing of Saee Patil, of Police Swimming Pool (01:11.92 secs., with a timing of 01:09.85 secs.

Sharing the opening day’s honours with Palak was Otters Club’s Vedika Amin, who bagged golds in the 100m back stroke and 100m free style events in

the same section. The lone boy to figure among record-breakers was GAF’s Sushrut Kapse, who won the 1500m free style event (17:31.46 secs) in the boys –I category. Sushrut thus bettered the 2013 record 17:37.20 secs,set by  Vedant Rao , also from Otters Club.
