In a major setback for Team India, star wicket keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the remaining test series against England due fractured right toe. The Indian vice-captain suffered a toe fracture on the first day of the fourth test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. According to Indian Expres Report, Pant has now been advised rest for 6 weeks.
How did Rishabh Pant suffer injury?
After tea on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, Pant tried to reverse sweep a delivery by England pace Chris Woakes. However, he inside-edged the bowl onto his right foot. Pant was taken off the field as he was struggling to stay on his feet.
The wicketkeeper-batter was unable to even limp off the field, and a stretcher was being called on the field before being helped onto a medical buggy.
At the time of the injury, Pant was batting on 37 runs. After stumps on Day 1, Pant was rushed to a hospital for scans. His medical reports revealed that he sustained fracture. Earlier in the day, Team India Captain Shubhman Gill also visited the star batter at the hospital.
This is the second injury he has sustained in as many Test matches. Pant had suffered a blow on his left index finger while keeping in England's first innings at Lord's. Dhruv Jurel substituted as India's wicketkeeper for the rest of that Test match.
Who will replace Pant in the squad?
Pant's absence will hamper India's chances of making comeback in the series. With 1-2 down in the series, Team India have to win both the remaining matches. While Dhruv Jurel will be standing behind the stumps for the rest of the matches, report have emerged that Ishan Kishan will be added to the squad ahead of the fifth Test, which will be played from July 31 to August 4 at The Oval.
