Sameer Rizvi dug Delhi Capitals out of a deep hole in a fine innings at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday. Introduced as an impact player, Rizvi smashed a half-century to turn the tables on the Lucknow Super Giants. The UP batter was introduced at No.4 in the 4th over of the innings and stitched a fine partnership with Tristan Stubbs to steer Delhi clear of troubled waters.
Rizvi was named in the impact substitute list with but was called into action after Delhi lost Nitish Rana early. The Delhi Capitals star then saw Prince Yadav wreck havoc with the wickets of Pathum Nissanka and Axar Patel.
With Delhi reeling at 26/4, Sameer took his time to get going. He did not get a run for his first 8 deliveries, with the LSG pacers bowling well. However, once settled, Rizvi dictated the game with his strike rotation and boundary hitting.
Rizvi was particularly hard on both spinners Shahbaz Ahmed and Aiden Markram, slowly building Delhi's chase. He smashed his half-century in 37 balls. Rizvi put on a century plus stand with Stubbs but did much of the scoring, despite Stubbs being the more accomplished star.
He sealed the match with a six to hand Delhi Capitals a 6-wicket win. Rizvi remained unbeaten on 70 off just 47 balls, his highest ever score in the league.
