Mumbai: On the opening day when seven new meet records were set, Khar Gymkhana swimmers had the major share with Aditi Dhumatkar (50m freestyle), Monique Gandhi (800m freestyle) among women and junior Aryan Makhija (800m freestyle) among men sharing the limelight in the GMAAA senior and lower age group swimming meet, held at Tata Swimming Pool, Chembur, on Sunday.
Also figuring among the record-breakers was Sanjiti Saha in the 50m butterfly stroke for girls under-8. And their under-8 relay girls setting new mark in the 4 x 50m medley relay proved to be icing on the cake. There were quite a good number of impressive performances, both in the men as well as among women swimmers – though they did not figure among record-breakers.
Like Rahul Rajani of CCI, who won two golds in the 50m and 100m backstrokes, Aryan Makhija, who also got gold in the 400m individual medley, Matunga Gymkhana’s Sangram Parab (50m freestyle) and Jai Dhanani (200m freestyle), Anukul Shenoy of MSP winning the 200m back stroke and Vedant Khandeparkqr (NSCI) claiming honours in the 200m butterfly stroke.
The gold winners in the women’s section were: Additi Nazre (Ozone)-50m breast stroke, Monique Gandhi adding the 100m breast stroke to her record-breaking 800m gold, Ariesa Mongia (NSCI) in the 200m breast stroke, Rujuta Bhatt in 200 butterfly and Proteeti Sinha, emerging best in the 400m individual medley.
Results: MEN: (800m freestyle) – Aryan Makhija (KG) -09:26.96 (Pronoy Adhikary (MSP) 9:28.37 – 2007). WOMEN: (50m freestyle)–Aditi Dhumatkar (KG) – 00:27.82 (Aditi Dhumatkar (KG) – 00:27.84).
