India batter and Vidarbha skipper Karun Nair etched his name in the record books during the Vijay Hazare Trophy by setting a new world record for the most consecutive runs scored in List A cricket without being dismissed.

This historic feat came during Vidarbha's match against Uttar Pradesh on January 3, where Nair scored his third successive century of the tournament.

Chasing a challenging target of 308 runs, Nair played a brilliant 112-run knock, which marked his first dismissal in his last four matches. His partnership with opener Yash Rathod, who also scored a century, was instrumental in Vidarbha’s innings.

When Nair crossed 70 runs in this game, he became the first Indian batter to amass 500 consecutive List A runs without losing his wicket, a milestone few had thought possible.

The 33-year-old has been in outstanding form throughout the tournament. He began with an unbeaten 112 against Jammu and Kashmir in a successful chase, followed by a composed 44 not out against Chhattisgarh. Nair's form peaked with back-to-back centuries:

A powerful 163 not-out against Chandigarh and a stylish 111 not-out against Tamil Nadu. His consistency has propelled Vidarbha to the top of Group E with 16 points.

With this achievement, Nair surpassed the previous record of 527 runs, held by New Zealand’s James Franklin since 2010. Nair now has seven List A centuries, four of which have come within just eight days, further highlighting his remarkable form and focus.

Nair's resurgence is particularly significant at this point in his career. After going unsold in the IPL auctions for two consecutive seasons, he was recently acquired by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 50 lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

This move follows his determined efforts to return to peak form after a long gap since his last international appearance during the 2017-18 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Best remembered for his triple century against England in 2016, Nair’s recent performances showcase his resilience and skill. Under his leadership, Vidarbha continues to shine, and his exceptional form could open doors for him once again.
