Team India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant revealed his stump-mic antics amid the ongoing Test series against England. With the Indian vice-captain's comments on stump-mic gathering plenty of attention and his conversations with himself also gaining spotlight, the southpaw said his coach Tarak Sinha told him to continue the self-chat.
The 27-year-old has not only been prolific with the bat but also chatty behind the stumps, seemingly trying to unsettle the opposition. The second innings of the opening Test at Headingley saw Pant chatting to himself after playing a shot that almost resulted in his dismissal.
When asked by a reporter about his talkative nature behind the stumps, the Uttarakhand-born cricketer explained:
"I think main same cheez kar raha hoon, jo as a kid karta tha, keep telling myself. Because my coach used to tell me, keep talking to yourself. Jo mere late Tarak Sinha sir they. Jo unhone cheezein sikhaayi hai, I still try to do the same thing." (I'm doing the same thing as I did as a kid. My coach used to tell me, keep talking to yourself, the late Tarak Sinha. Whatever he taught me, I try to do the same thing.)

When asked by an English reporter about his contest with the returning Jofra Archer, Pant responded that he wouldn't be doing anything different against the right-arm speedster.
"Personally, whenever I step on the field, I enjoy my cricket and try to give my 100 percent. It's not particularly about any individual. Yes, it's going to be a good contest, because he's also coming after a long break. But yes, I'm happy he's back."
Archer, who replaced Josh Tongue in England's playing XI, will play his first Test since 2021.
