Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced a disappointing collapse in their match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, with their batting lineup being thoroughly dismantled by MI's bowlers. The pitch, which heavily favored the bowlers, allowed MI to dominate the game, quickly taking down KKR’s top order and leaving them in a state of disarray.

MI's bowlers were in superb form, claiming seven wickets for just 70 runs, with KKR losing half of their side even before the end of the powerplay.

KKR's lowest total in IPL history

This early collapse led to one of KKR's lowest totals in IPL history. KKR’s total of 67 runs, scored in their match against MI in the inaugural IPL season, remains their all-time lowest.

In addition to this, KKR had previously posted their second-lowest IPL score of 84/8 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2020 season. Their third-lowest total of 95 came in the 2009 season, once again against Mumbai Indians. This latest performance will undoubtedly be a major concern for the defending champions.

Mumbai Indians on road to register their first win of IPL 2025

At the time of writing Mumbai Indians were cruising at 42 runs without a loss of wicket. Having opted to bowl first, Mumbai Indians bowling unit led by debutant Ashwani Kumar destroyed the KKR batting lineup as the defending champions were bowled out for 116 runs in 16.2 overs. Ashwani bagged 4 wickets while Deepak Chahar had 2 wickets to his name. The rest of the bowlers bagged a wicket apiece.

The powerplay belonged to Mumbai Indians as they picked up four wickets for 41 runs in the first 6 overs.  It was the pacers who did the maximum damage with Deepak Chahar picking up 2 wickets, while debutant Ashwani Kumar and Trent Boult picked up one wicket apiece. With wickets tumbling like pack of cards there was no coming back for the defending champions.
