Punjab Kings' bowling spearhead Arshdeep Singh seems to have been the mastermind behind the introduction of Vijaykumar Vyshak in their IPL 2025 opener against the Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. In the video surfaced on social media, the left-arm seamer was seen suggesting the captain to bring in the right-arm pacer as the impact player.
With Arshdeep dismissing B Sai Sudharsan and Sherfane Rutherford walking out, Vyshak came in as an impact player. Although the right-arm pacer went for two fours and a six in his three wicketless overs, he conceded only ten runs off his first two overs. Until his introduction, the Titans looked to be on track to chase down the daunting target of 244, but Vyshak's first couple of overs made a massive difference.
Below video shows the detailed explanation of the same:
Earlier, in the game, Shreyas Iyer starred for the Punjab Kings by smashing an unbeaten 97 off 42 deliveries to propel their side to 243/5. In response, B Sai Sudharsan (74) and Jos Buttler (54) played well but the Titans fell short by 11 runs in the end.
"It's never easy for someone who's been on the bench for almost 15 overs" - Shubman Gill on Vijaykumar Vyshak
Speaking to the host broadcaster after the 11-run loss, Titans captain Gill credited Vyshak massively for nailing those yorkers at the backed, saying:
"It's not easy, you know, coming in as an impact player and delivering those yorkers. It's never easy for someone who's been on the bench for almost 15 overs. But I think credit to them, the way they bowled yorkers."
