Lionel Messi continued his incredible form in Major League Soccer (MLS), scoring twice in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over Nashville SC on Saturday. With this performance, Messi set a new milestone by scoring multiple goals in five straight MLS games the longest such streak in league history.

He had already made history last week by becoming the first player to score two or more goals in four consecutive MLS matches. Now, he’s extended that record with yet another brilliant performance. This is Messi’s first time scoring two or more goals in five straight league matches since his Barcelona days in 2012, when he had a run of six in La Liga.

Lionel Messi breaks Nashville's unbeaten run

Messi’s first goal came in the 17th minute with a stunning free kick that curled around the Nashville wall and beat goalkeeper Joe Willis. It was his 69th career free-kick goal, and sixth for Inter Miami.

He scored his second in the 62nd minute, capitalizing on a poor pass from Willis. Messi calmly dribbled around the keeper and slotted the ball into the net, showing his trademark composure.

In between Messi’s goals, Hany Mukhtar scored for Nashville off a fine cross from Andy Nájar, briefly bringing the match level. Nashville entered the game on a hot streak, unbeaten since mid-April and with five wins in a row. They had also climbed to third in the Supporters’ Shield standings before this loss, marking one of the best runs in the club’s history.

Where does Inter Miami stand on points table?

Messi's match winning goals sees Inter Miami secure their fifth straight win, pushing them up to fifth place in the Supporters' Shield standings. The win keeps Miami in strong contention to win the title again this season.

The Argentine superstar now shares the top spot in the MLS goal-scoring chart with Nashville’s Sam Surridge both have 16 goals in 16 matches this season.
