After losing the ODI series in Australia, the Indian women’s cricket team began the T20I series at home against West Indies Women with an emphatic win. The Women in Blue outplayed their opponents across all departments in the opening match to register a 49-runs win and take a 1-0 lead in the three-T20I series.
The Women in Blue batted first and posted 195 runs on board losing only four wickets in 20 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues top scored with a blazing 73 off just 35 balls while Smriti Mandhana chipped in with a brilliant half-century.
The West Indies in their reply managed only 146 runs. Qiana Joseph missed her fifty by just one run, while Deandra Dottin who recently became the most expensive overseas player in WPL played a fighting knock of 57 runs, which included four boundaries and three sixes.
India bowlers also performed well. Titas Sadhu finished with a three-wicket haul, while spinners Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav each picked two scalps, ripping through the opposition middle order. Renuka Singh wicketless but was economical with the ball. While India will look to register second consecutive win, West Indies will look to level the series.
