Team India skipper Rohit Sharma's future as captain had been a massive point of debate after their poor performance in the recent Test series in Australia, with the captain himself registering only 31 runs in three matches. With Rohit nearing 38, a report has stunningly claimed that he might retire if the Men in Blue lose the Champions Trophy 2025 final on Sunday.

The right-handed batter has achieved a rare feat of taking Team India to the final of every ICC tournament, ranging from the World Test Championship (WTC) decider to the Champions Trophy 2025 final. Although the Men in Blue lost the WTC and the 50-over World Cup final, the Asian Giants won the T20 World Cup last year in the West Indies. With Rohit being on the wrong side of the 30s, he will want to retire with another ICC trophy under his belt.

Nevertheless, a report by Dainik Jagran says the veteran will call it quits if the national team loses. Rohit has already retired from T20Is and his form in Tests means he is unlikely to play red-ball cricket again.

With the destructive opening batter yet to fire in the tournament, he is also due a big score and could break the shackles in the final.

"He also needs to give it some thought" - Sunil Gavaskar on Rohit Sharma's approach

With Rohit getting out for scores of 41, 20, 15 and 28 in this competition, ex-Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted that the veteran must spend more time in the crease and shouldn't be happy with 25-30 runs. He said the following during an interaction with India Today:

"(If) He (Rohit Sharma) bats for even 25 overs, India will be around 180-200. Imagine if they have lost only a couple of wickets by then; just think what they could do. They could reach 350 or more. He also needs to give it some thought. It’s one thing to go out and play aggressively, but there has to be a bit of discretion somewhere to give himself the chance to bat for 25-30 overs."
