The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided a fresh update on keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, confirming that he will not keep wickets for the remainder of the ongoing Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester. However, the 27-year-old has arrived at the ground and the medical team is assessing his possibilities of batting on day two.

Pant, 27, sustained the toe injury during the 68th over of the innings on day one as he tried to play a reverse-sweep off a yorker length from Chris Woakes. Instead, the ball took the inside edge and hit him on the toe, leaving Pant in agony. After the star cricketer removed his shoe and socks, the wound was seen bleeding and he had to be carried off in a golf cart.

The BCCI also announced that Dhruv Jurel will keep wickets for the remainder of the Test. The statement from the board read:

"Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements."

Ravindra Jadeja dismissed early on day 2 by Jofra Archer

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer needed only four balls to make an impact on day two at Old Trafford as he got Jadeja to nick one off to the slip cordon, with Harry Brook taking an outstanding low catch. Both Jadeja and Shardul Thakur had got the ball to nick at least twice before the former's dismissal but the ball fell short.

Despite Jadeja's wicket, the hosts haven't been able to take the initiative completely as Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar have worked hard to take the score past 300.

India had finished the opening day at 264/4. Although B Sai Sudharsan justified his return to the side with a gritty 61, their promising day was overshadowed by Pant's injury.
