How did Rishabh Pant hut his finger?

Pant hurt his finger on the opening day of the Test match. The incident occurred in the 33rd over of the innings as Jasprit Bumrah fired a delivery down the leg side and Pant dove to keep it down to a couple of runs.

However, he looked uncomfortable and called on the dugout for some treatment. The 27-year-old continued till the end of the 33rd over but walked off the field, prompting Jurel to keep wickets.

Why Pant's injury is a major setback for India?

Pant is currently Team india's second-highest run-getter in the series with 342 runs in four innings at an average of 85.50, with two centuries and a fifty. He scored twin centuries at Leeds, with a best score of 134. So far, he has broken plenty of records as a wicketkeeper-batter, especially going ahead of legend MS Dhoni for most Test centuries by a keeper-batter for India and highest run tally by an Asian wicketkeeper in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia (SENA) nations.

Can Dhruv Jurel bat in place of Pant?

While Jurel has been permitted to keep wickets in both innings under the ICC’s current regulations, he is not allowed to bat in place of Pant. The ICC only allows full player replacements in cases of concussion, and any substitute must be chosen from the pre-submitted list of replacements. This means that unless Pant recovers in time, India may be forced to bat a player
