Team India keeper-batter Sanju Samson has opened up on his being a Rajnikanth fanboy, claiming that he will go for first day and first show for the star's upcoming movie Coolie. Samson also recalled how he went to watch a Rajnikanth movie in Dublin, Ireland and the theatre was full.

One of the biggest stars in Indian Cinema, the 74-year-old's film Coolie is all set to hit the theatres worldwide on August 14, 2025. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will also star in the film, with Lokesh Kangaraj directing it.
Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Samason said:
"I remember I was in Ireland in Dublin. I was there for an Indian game. I realised Rajni sir's movie was releasing tomorrow and I'm having a match the next day. I went solo in search of a theatre playing the movie and booked the ticket. I watched it and came back. I have gone to that extent as a fan. Definitely, I'm thrilled for his next movie. There were a lot of audience, Malayalis, Tamils and Andhra people."
When asked how he plans to watch Coolie, the Kerala-born cricketer responded:
"I will go to theatres. If possible, first day, first show."
"The journey with RR has been really great" - Sanju Samson
Amid speculations of Samson wanting to leave the Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2026, the 30-year-old has underlined that playing for the franchise means the world to him, given the opportunity it handed to him as a youngster. He told Ashwin:
"RR has meant the world to me. A small child coming from a village in Kerala, wanting to show his talent. And then Rahul (Dravid) sir and Manoj Badale sir gave me a stage to get up and show the world what I am made of. That time, they trusted me throughout. The journey with RR has been really great, and I’m very grateful to have been in a franchise like that. It really means a lot to me."
The keeper-batter has been largely linked with the Super Kings ahead of IPL 2026.
