Former India cricketer Murali Vijay was effusive in his praise for India skipper Rohit Sharma after the latter became the first captain in world cricket to reach the finals of all four major ICC events.
"Fabulous. We played along for ten years so..I know Rohit as a person too. We connect well. I wish him all the luck and I wish Shubman Gill can do the same as well,'' he added.
Vijay was speaking on the sidelines of the 6th Habitat Annual Habitat Charity Golf Tournament organised by Habitat for Humanity India at the Willingdon Sports Club on Friday.
The former Test opener felt Team India's performance in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy was fantastic and something that all Indians can be proud of.
"All Indians should be proud. The brand of cricket that the Indian cricket team is playing is fantastic and they are going to win the trophy unless they have a bad day at the field," he stated.
The Tamil Nadu man explained India were totally justified in their approach of going with a four-pronged spin attack in the last couple of matches in the Champions Trophy.
"It's a horses for the courses policy. Dubai is a little dryish place. We need to have more spin options and if you see Rohit and Gautam Gambhir have explained that we have not just taken spinners but all-rounders. Axar Patel is doing a great job for us and Ravindra Jadeja is a great player. I don't think we should find too many faults with the Indian team, the pressure they go through on a day to day basis is huge," Vijay explained.
With the all-important final scheduled for Sunday with India set to take on New Zealand in Dubai, Vijay felt the Kiwis are a dangerous outfit going into the summit clash because of their attitude on the field.
"Their intensity. The New Zealand team is a very, very dangerous side with regards to playing the ICC finals. New Zealand team always plays as a unit. As a fielding unit, they are top notch. So the Indian team should be raising their intensity on the final day. I think the Indian team will be well prepared," Vijay signed off.
The event also saw the presence of former Indian players Murali Kartik and Subramanian Badrinath and one of India's top golfers Shiv Kapur.
