The quarterfinal match at the Club World Cup between PSG and Bayern Munich was not only physical but also witnessed a very horrific moment involving Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala. The match played on Saturday, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta saw Musiala stretched off the field following a horrific leg injury.

The incident unfolded in the first half as the 22-year-old was attempting to capitalize on a loose ball in PSG’s penalty area when he collided with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The PSG shot-stopper had charged forward in an attempt to clear the danger, but accidentally struck Musiala’s left leg in the process.

The severity of the injury became immediately evident. Players from both teams frantically called for medical assistance, and replays of the collision were reportedly withheld from stadium screens due to their graphic nature. Donnarumma was visibly shaken with tears rolling out of eyes after watching the injury. Musiala was stretchered off the pitch and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Bayern, went on to lose the match 2-0 despite PSG being reduced to nine men following red cards for Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez, goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele sealed the win for the French side.

Musiala's injury update

Bayern Munich has yet to issue an official statement regarding the extent of Musiala’s injury, leaving his availability for the rest of the Club World Cup and the start of the 2025–26 season uncertain. Prior to the injury, Musiala had been in fine form, netting three goals in the tournament.

Musiala has been a key figure for Bayern since breaking into the senior team in 2020 at just 17 years old. He made history in 2022 as the first teenager to represent Germany in a World Cup since 1958, and his injury is a major blow not only for Bayern ahead of the new season
