Mumbai Indians are all set to begin their IPL 2025 journey under a new skipper. Hardik Pandya will not be taking the field against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Sunday, March 23 due to one one-match suspension following a slow over-rate in the last game of the IPL 2024 season.

Suryakumar in the past had the chance to captain Mumbai Indians team. It was back in 2023 when he got the chance to be Mumbai's Indians stand-in skipper for a match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Playing in front of young fans at Wankhede that year, the five-time champions went onto win the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Surykumar Yadav began his Mumbai Indians journey back in 2018. Over the time he has scored 2,986 runs in 94 innings, scoring 23 fifties and 2 centuries for MI. During the pre-tournament press conference, Hardik praised Surya, believing that he’s one of the most important players for the team in the upcoming season.
Speaking to media he said, “SKY has scored a lot of runs over the years. For me, he is batting brilliantly. He has been a proven match-winner for India and Mumbai Indians,”
