Two years ago, a young Riyan Parag took to social media with quiet confidence, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “My inner conscience says I’m hitting 4 sixes in an over at some point this IPL..”

Fast forward to 2025, and Parag fulfilled that prophecy. On a dramatic Sunday evening at Eden Gardens, the Rajasthan Royals' stand-in skipper lit up the stadium with a jaw-dropping display of power-hitting, smashing six consecutive sixes off legal deliveries, a feat never before achieved in the history of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals wasted no time in celebrating their star batter’s moment of glory, resharing his 2023 post with the caption: "God’s plan baby."

Parag etches his name in history books

The historic sequence began in the 13th over of the Royals’ 207-run chase against Kolkata Knight Riders. Parag took England’s Moeen Ali to the cleaners, hammering five sixes in a single over. After a wide ball interrupted the onslaught, Shimron Hetmyer took a single, giving Parag strike again and he picked up right where he left off, launching Varun Chakravarthy for another towering six to complete the unprecedented six-in-a-row.

At just 23, Parag registered his name into the record books, joining an elite group of players Chris Gayle (2012), Rahul Tewatia (2020), Ravindra Jadeja (2021), and Rinku Singh (2023) who have hit five sixes in an over in IPL history.

He eventually fell for 95 off 45 balls in the 18th over, narrowly missing out on a fairytale finish as KKR edged out Royals by just 1 run. Speaking on the narrow loss, Parag, while speaking to broadcasters said, “I was planning to stay till the last 2 overs, but unfortunately I got out in the 18th over. It was a miscalculation from my side. I think we could have found better options in the last 6 overs. Maybe other bowling options. No one to complain but ourselves, we should have finished it. We could have done something else in hindsight,”
