Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min proudly called himself a "club legend" after leading Spurs to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final on May 22. After the match, Son usually known for his humble personality, was all smiles as he spoke to TNT Sports. Reflecting on the historic win, he finally accepted the "legend" title that fans have long given him.

"Let's say I'm a legend. Why not? Only today! Seventeen years, nobody has done it, so with such amazing players yeah today's the day. Probably today I will say I'm a legend of this club," Son said with a grin.

"I feel amazing. This is what I've always dreamed for and today is the day it happened. Dream came really, really true. I'm so so happy. I am the happiest man in the world," he added.

For Son, who has now spent ten years at Tottenham, the moment was especially meaningful. His leadership throughout the season was key, and lifting the trophy.

Spurs end trophy drought

Both teams came into the final after poor seasons in the Premier League. Manchester United had been unbeaten in Europe until the final, but Spurs stepped up when it mattered most.

The victory ended Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a trophy and gave them their first-ever European title. The winning goal came in the first half, when Brennan Johnson's strike deflected off United defender Luke Shaw and found the back of the net. That single goal was enough for Spurs to lift the trophy in Bilbao and secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

While Spurs celebrated their long-awaited success, Manchester United were left disappointed, ending the season with no trophy and finishing 16th in the league, missing out on European football next year.
